Why Isn’t Your Brand On TikTok Yet?

By Carina Mazur, Jun 07, 2021

TikTok Data Story

TikTok gets a billion views every day.

Why are people using TikTok? It makes people happy. It’s that simple!

It’s the only app that users named “lifts my spirits” as the top reason for using it.

You might have some preconceived ideas about TikTok if you haven’t used it yet, but it’s not what you think.

Let’s dive into some TikTok stats and help you find your customers where they’re at.

TikTok for your brand

So what sparks all that TikTok joy?

It seems that everyone is using TikTok to get inspired about new recipes, tools, products, songs, news, cultural topics—or just about anything you can think of.

46% of TikTok users say they use it to discover new things. 67% say they use the platform to get ideas about new products and businesses.

And get this: 67% of TikTokers are over 25—not all TikTok content creators are teens or Gen Z!

TikTok Data Story

The majority of TikTok users say TikTok inspires them to buy something new.

Nearly 75% of 18-34 year olds and 65% of 35-44 year olds claimed they were inspired to buy something they’d seen on TikTok.

TikTok Data Story

All this to mean that there’s an audience and niche for everyone, no matter your age or interests. People feel a sense of belonging without being judged, and feel heard based on their interests.

TikTok also has extensive subcultures: moms, gamers, cooks, teachers, seniors, book clubs, jewelry, travel etc., which means you can find your target audience even if they’re Millennials or older.

Promoting your business

TikTok is notorious for preaching “Don’t make ads, make TikToks.”

Nobody likes ads, but with TikTok ads—it’s a different story.

On TikTok, it’s easy to make a creative ad that simulates the TikTok culture.

It’s a great and personal way to put a face to your business and share your story as if you were chatting with a close friend. And this way of personal advertising works: People are 15% more likely to buy from an independent business on TikTok than on any other social media platforms.

57% of TikTok users were led to make a purchase by something they saw on TikTok. 83% of users say that TikTok played a role in the decisions to purchase.

TikTok Data Story

Whether it’s educational or entertaining, it’s easy for users to watch a creative video without even realizing it’s an ad or realizing it only at the end.

If an ad embodies trending sounds, topics or conversational trends, TikTok users might even enjoy it. They may also admire the level of effort and strategy that goes into researching and integrating the ad with the TikTok culture.

Experimenting is your best friend! With a relevant video, you can drive thousands or millions of views in just a day. You can  schedule Tiktoks and use organic and paid content to really get your voice out there, immediately.

Growth of TikTok in 2021

So is TikTok here to stay?

TikTok comes in 7th place as the most popular social network worldwide as of January 2021, beaten by Facebook coming in first place, and then Youtube, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Weixin/WeChat, respectively.

TikTok Data Story

Yet in 2019, TikTok was the third most downloaded non-gaming app in the world with over 1.5 billion downloads. TikTok’s lifetime user spending reached 300 million US dollars that year.

Interestingly enough, Peru was actually the fastest growing TikTok market of Apple downloads as of February 2021, with 52.9 thousand downloads. This was a 120% increase from the previous month. The US comes in 3rd place, with a 16.2% growth increase compared to the previous month.

TikTok is only expected to continue growing as more people jump on board. Hopefully, this means that more people’s spirits will continue to rise with it.
