how to make a video collage

Youtube. Instagram Stories. Facebook Live. It’s no secret that videos are all the rage these days. Even businesses are using social media and video sharing platforms to capture the day-to-day of their office and share it with the world.

If you’re looking for a fun way to show off your company trip photos or end-of-year party footage, why not create a video collage?

In just five easy steps, you can make an eye-catching compilation of your favorite videos or photos. Read on to learn how to make a video collage using Venngage’s Free Video Collage Maker

Click to jump ahead:

What is a video collage?

A video collage is a unique way to show off your favorite video or photo montage. Just like how a photo collage is a series of images put together, a video collage groups videos, GIFs, images with fun (or sad, your choice) music and animations in a visually appealing way.

Let’s say you want to create a video collage of your coworkers’ pets. You can add photos of dogs or cats (or any pets, really) or cute little clips of pets sleeping or playing with toys. Couple that with some fun music or even some sound effects if you want, and you have a nice video collage to show on your business Instagram!

Your video collage should seamlessly transition from scene to scene for a cohesive feel. Here’s an example of a video collage I put together quickly for this post, using Venngage’s Video Maker:

Granted, it’s not the best video collage out there, but you get what I mean!

How to make a video collage in 5 steps

Before you learn how to make a video collage, you’ll need two things: a program or a video collage maker that allows you to select multiple videos at once to merge into one, and a good song that you think will go well with the theme of your video.

Some video makers allow users to choose their own free background music while others have pre-made songs available for purchase. A wide range of video collage makers is available to help you create your own video collage online, whether you’re using your computer or mobile device.

With Venngage’s Video Maker, you can create video collages and export them for use across all platforms. With pre-built video templates, a drag-and-drop editor, and an asset library with a wide variety of animated graphics, images, video, and audio, Venngage can help you create your own beautiful video collage!

For example, this is the template I used to create the video collage above:

If you’re looking to tell an inspirational story, the LearnToGrow Non-Profit Explainer is a good template to use:

If you’re looking for something a little edgier, the Fashion Instagram Ad is a good video template that you can modify through editing your video collage to make it uniquely your own:

Step 3: Add images, videos, and audio to your video collage

Now that you’ve found the perfect template for your video collage, it’s time to add some media. You can add multiple images, videos/GIFs, or audio to your video from the left toolbar. You can also customize the video by adding special effects and animations.

We also have an Upload tab, so you can add your own image and audio files. Or choose from our collection of stock photos from Pexels and Unsplash, as well as stickers.

Step 4: Edit video collage

This is where you can get extra creative! Once you’re done uploading your media, it’s time to start editing.

Trim your video or make it extend the scene by changing the scene duration:

Videos must be at least 1 second long. The maximum duration for videos is 30 seconds.

When editing your video collage, you can add or remove backgrounds, text, and shapes from the toolbar in the video editor:

Venngage’s Video Editor also lets you insert a dynamic QR code into your video to direct viewers to other websites.

Step 5: Export and share your video collage

Once you’re happy with the way your video collage looks, it’s time to export it. Venngage’s Video Editor exports MP4 files and depending on the file size of your video collage, it may take several minutes to export your video file.

Once the video has been rendered and exported, you can choose to download it or share it using a link:

How to make a photo video collage stand out

Your video collage can definitely hold its own as a standalone piece of content. But there are certain steps you can take to enhance it even further.

Here are some tips to make a video collage stand out:

1. Use high-quality videos and images

When putting together your video collage, make sure to use high-quality videos and images. This will ensure that your content looks great no matter where it’s viewed.

2. Add background music

The background song you choose for your video collage is critical in setting the tone and atmosphere. Make sure to carefully choose your audio and add music that compliments the theme of your video collage and will engage viewers from start to finish.

To add music, you can choose from the Venngage media library, upload your own audio file, or use royalty-free music for some added flair. Ensure that the music you choose is compatible with the video hosting platform you will be posting it on.

3. Edit your video collage carefully

Take the time to edit your video collage carefully. This means ensuring that all videos and images are properly placed within the template and look great when played back as a whole.

When you add text, make sure to proofread before you export so your video collage looks clean and well-made. Preview your video before you export it so you can catch any errors. After exporting your polished video collage, use an Instagram story viewer to analyze how your audience engages with it. This tool can provide insights into which elements resonate most, such as the text placement, design, or overall message.

4. Export in HD quality

When exporting your video collage, make sure to do so in HD quality. This will ensure that it looks great no matter what screen it’s viewed on.
