And then to get them to click through to your site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You want the ad to stand out against the background noise of news, politics and status updates. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ad copy could be impeccable but the visual has to be even better, since <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that\u2019s what will<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be seen first. Now that almost every news site, company page or blogger uses <a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/visual-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compelling visuals<\/a>, standing out has become more difficult. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, Consumer Acquisition found that images are responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/klientboost.com\/ppc\/facebook-marketing-for-saas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">75% to 90% of ad conversions<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That&#8217;s why our team worked hard to come up with these actionable tips for creating the most effective Facebook images for 2017!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By now there are thousands, or maybe millions, of guides on how to create the perfect visual for a Facebook Ad. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The problem?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those tips and tricks is are either extremely broad or would only work for a specific product or niche.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And worst of all, they are not immediately actionable, or they require a professional design team, which not everyone can afford.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of being one of those incredibly broad guides that tells you what you already know, we decided to test very specific things. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So we tested 35 different Facebook ads over a few weeks to find out what visual elements drove the most clicks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is what we found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(By the way, if you want to create your own ebook like this one, check out our <a style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We were interested in finding out what the best visual components were for a Facebook ad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Because as the<a href=\"https:\/\/onefoursix.co.uk\/the-facebook-newsfeed-change-whats-changed\/\"> newsfeed algorithm keeps changing<\/a>, ads may soon be the only way your content is seen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The budget, audience, and time were kept exactly the same to limit the variables and hopefully make our test even more accurate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So we decided to run Facebook ads for our &#8220;Ultimate Guide To Designing Epic Social Media Images&#8221; (not live now).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ad copy was also kept consistent throughout, with the ads looking exactly the same as the example below:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image05-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" testing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the design elements we tested were quite different, like whether or not light or dark colors lead to more clicks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But others were a little more subtle, like whether or not a combination of serif and sans serif fonts help bring in more clicks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span the ads and how we created them, do not hesitate to leave a comment! <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>First Test Run<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what did we find? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are seven design elements and combinations that performed better than the rest. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on those results, we created a sample of new ads and tested them to see which were the ultimate Facebook ad design combinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. This gives your ad an advantage because the idea you are trying to convey is understood immediately. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, I am not saying that you need to be hip to the most popular memes to create successful Facebook ads, but it\u2019s worth a try! <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>2. The white text is also very easy to read against the black background.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this ad, we also tested the position of the text, which, as you can see, was left-aligned. We found that it performed significantly better than ads which had text that was right aligned or even centered. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is that?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I suspect it\u2019s because people are used to scanning through headlines on Facebook and pretty much everywhere else where text is-you guessed it&#8211;left-aligned. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>3. Use Charts &amp; Graphs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The third most popular ad design included something that we are very familiar with at Venngage: a graph.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was another ad that I knew would be a winner from the beginning. But the main image is also able to use a vivid palette with contrasting colors to give it a great balance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, we included the actual <a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/ebook-cover\/\">ebook cover<\/a> in the image, which shows to the audience that it is a tangible product. In this format, it looks like a formidable guide full of interesting ideas instead of just a blog post. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plus, just like with the magic wand from an earlier ad, the book draws your eye to the title. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And finally, the use of a white title made it pop on such a dark background! <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>2. This was added to not only catch the eye, but also push our audience in the correct direction. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How so?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the other ads it only said \u201cDownload Now\u201d but the little extra instruction in \u201cClick to Download\u201d pushes our audience actually click. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>I believe that this also informed people that they could get this product not only for free, but immediately as well.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People love free things that also provide immediate gratification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, again, we included a picture of the product, which helps people visualize a product that is virtual. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>3. Use Icons and Charts<\/strong> <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Like we have already discovered, popular topics like food, memes or locations work really well.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the third most popular ad from the second test, we used coffee as our popular topic and built the visual around it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-9315 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1.png\" alt=\"How to Design Facebook Images That Get More Clicks\" width=\"629\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1.png 1300w, https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1-768x425.png 768w, https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1-1024x567.png 1024w, https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image09-1-730x404.png 730w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 629px) 100vw, 629px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was also only one of a few ads from the whole study that used icons or graphics in the visual. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from grabbing our audience\u2019s attention, they were also used to give the visual more context&#8211;in this case, that this guide would help your social media and marketing metrics skyrocket!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The style of the icons also helped the ad succeed. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ga-dev-tools.appspot.com\/campaign-url-builder\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fun and whimsical icons<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can help put your audience at ease, appeals to the child in all of us, and makes the product seem more accessible. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So ditch the boring minimalistic icons and using something more fun!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>In Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From both rounds of testing, we were able to glean to eight key tips to take away:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Left-align text.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use recognizable images and memes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Include a product shot.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Include a call to action.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use fun and playful icons.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use white text.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mix up font styles and <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.g2crowd.com\/facebook-cover-photo-size\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook image sizes.<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use interesting and thematic images.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are little things that you can add to your next campaign.
