Audiences are very picky about the text found in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/presentation-templates-powerpoint-themes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presentation slide decks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>In my experiences speaking at conferences and in <a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/what-is-a-webinar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">webinars<\/a> over the past few years, audiences respond much more positively to presentations that use visuals in place of text.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audiences are more engaged, ask more questions, and find my talks more memorable when I include lots of visual examples in my slide decks.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not the only one who has found this. We recently <a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/presentation-design-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surveyed nearly 400 conference speakers about their presentation designs<\/a> and found that 84.3% create presentations that are highly visual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A great example of a high visual presentation is the iconic AirBnB <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/business-pitch-deck-templates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pitch deck design<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which includes no more than 40 words per slide. The text on your slides should provide support for what you\u2019re saying without being distracting. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never write out, word for word, what you\u2019re going to be saying out loud. If you&#8217;re relying on text to remember certain points, resist the urge to cram them into your slides. But that\u2019s totally ok!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve talked to many professionals who are pressured by their management teams to create presentations with a specific number of slides (usually as few as 10 or 15 slides for a 30-minute presentation).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you ask me, this approach is completely flawed. In my mind, the longer I spend sitting on a single slide, the more likely I am to lose the interest of my audience.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many slides should I use for a 10 minute presentation?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A good rule of thumb is to have at least as many slides as minutes in your presentation. So for a 10 minute presentation you should have <strong>at least 10 slides<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use as many slides as you need, as long as you are presenting a single message on each slide, (as seen in the lengthy <a href=\"https:\/\/venngage.com\/blog\/presentation-templates-powerpoint-themes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presentation template<\/a> below). This is especially important&nbsp;if you&#8217;re presenting your business, or delivering a product presentation. Use scaffolding slides to orient your audience and keep them engaged<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s easy for audiences to get lost during long presentations, especially if you have lots of slides. And audiences zone out when they get lost.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help reorient your audience every once in a while, you can use something I like to call scaffolding slides. Scaffolding slides appear throughout a presentation to denote the start and end of major sections.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The core scaffolding slide is the agenda slide, which should appear right after the introduction or title slide.
