They all visualize the roadmap, and then maybe, add a few pieces of supporting information. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But this product roadmap example goes the extra mile and explains what the company is actually planning. This is the first thing that a reader will see, and it sets the tone for the whole roadmap. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These notes help the readers understand what VOLO is planning to do. The designers decided to show how they were going to achieve their goals, and why they were doing it in the first place. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4\"><b>4. And when you&#8217;re trying to sell your whole team on a year-long project that can be a big deal.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example in this product roadmap template, they not only feature their brand colors but also a giant donut. This obviously fits a fun bakery extremely well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A genuine visual approach like this can help your team feel like they are working on something that matters to the company. Instead of only checking tasks off a list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5\"><b>5. This can be a simple line or a little more complicated, like in the example above.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I can see people getting very confused while reading this roadmap without a central timeline. Especially because there\u2019s no pattern or reason for each point to be where it is.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with the timeline, all of the points are connected and easy to navigate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6\"><b>6. Assign a deliverable to each step or section<a href=\"https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2018\/04\/image18.png\"><br><\/a><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"503\" src=\"https:\/\/venngage-wordpress.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2018\/04\/image18.png\" alt=\"Product Roadmap Templates\" class=\"wp-image-15633\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you&#8217;re working on a new product or project it\u2019s often difficult to see exactly where all that hard work is going. Or even what you&#8217;re working towards each week. Especially if you aren\u2019t involved in the day-to-day activities or familiar with the product.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is why I like how this product roadmap assigned a deliverable for each step of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trychameleon.com\/blog\/how-to-announce-new-features\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">product launch<\/a>. These don\u2019t have to be set in stone, but you can use them as little milestones as you build a product.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7\"><b>7. Listing important things like necessary tasks, job explanations, and more. That\u2019s great, but you also should take the time to do some in-depth customer research.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example from Intercom, they asked their customers why they weren&#8217;t using a certain feature. This helps them attack the root of the problem, instead of creating fixes they thought would help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And this approach helped them create a product roadmap that focused on their customer needs, not just their ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"9\"><b>9. They are extremely eye-catching and can be used in a variety of helpful ways.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this example, they are visual anchors that give the content something to grab onto. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without these well-designed icons, the written content would be floating in white space. And instead of an exciting product roadmap, it would look like another boring corporate document.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"11\"><b>11. Like big software releases, in the example above. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, this type of roadmap can be presented to the public to help explain your long-term growth plans. All without having to adhere to a specific release or launch date. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"14\"><b>14. Something could look extremely benign on paper to an uninformed party but actually, end up taking a long time to complete.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can combat this confusion by using a graph or chart to visualize whatever metric you care about. The designers actually do this for each project in this product roadmap template above as well.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now even the most uninformed person can tell that Phase 6 is going to take a long time to complete.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Conclusion <\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hopefully, you found a few examples or tips that will help you build a perfect product roadmap.
